About the role

Role Overview:

The Head of Sales is a strategic leadership role responsible for driving revenue growth, market share, and customer engagement across all regions in the UK and Ireland.  This position oversees second-line management of  Sales and Commercial Managers for the commercial, sales and clinical organisation, ensuring alignment with coporate objectives, operational excellence, and high-performance sales execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Strategy
    • Develop and execute the national sales strategy in alignment with company goals.
    • Ensure the clinical education strategy is delivered and prioritised in line with the go-to-market plan. 
    • Lead, coach, and mentor Sales and Commercial Managers to foster a high-performing, accountable sales culture.
    • Collaborate with Marketing, Service, Project Management, Customer Services and Product teams to ensure cohesive go-to-market strategies.
  • Sales and Clinical Performance & Execution
    • Set and monitor sales targets, KPIs, and forecasts across regions.
    • Analyse market trends, customer feedback, and competitor activity to inform strategic decisions.
    • Drive pipeline development and conversion through effective sales processes and CRM utilisation.
    • Ensure clinical teams are led and managed effectively through the sales leadership ensuring that goal setting, team leadership and coaching in field mirrors the sales strategy.
    • Align commercial development of the clinical team with sales strategy.
  • Team Development & Management
    • Provide second-line leadership to Sales and Commercial Managers, supporting their development and performance.
    • Champion talent development, succession planning, and recruitment within the sales and clinical function.
    • Set goals and objectives that are driven from key tactics developed within the go-to-market plan. Lead and measure the team’s performance against these goals and objectives
    • Facilitate regular performance reviews and regional business reviews using CRM and sales dashboards.
    • Follow appropriate performance improvement program to address and support underperformance.
    • Contribute to the development of strategy through active participation in the medical leadership team.

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, partners, and stakeholders.
    • Represent the sales function in cross-functional leadership forums and strategic initiatives.
    • Support the sales management team in developing and coaching both Account Managers and Clinical Application Specialists.
    • Work in alignment with marketing to execute tactics around clinical education programs that support customer needs and develop a differentiated value-based approach to our brand.
  • Compliance & Governance
    • Ensure adherence to company policies, industry regulations, and ethical standards.
    • Promote a culture of integrity, transparency, and continuous improvement.

Reporting Relationships

Manager - Sales and Marketing Director

Size of team/environment - Direct reports:  3 Sales Managers and 2 Commercial Managers covering the UK and Ireland territory

Your Qualifications

Role Requirements

Education/Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent business experience in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales or a related field is desirable.

 

Related Experience 

Proven experience in a senior sales leadership role, ideally with second-line management responsibilities.

Strong track record of delivering sales growth and leading geographically dispersed teams.

Experience in medical devices and healthcare technology is highly desirable.

Ability to travel nationally as required.

Skills, Special Competencies

Excellent strategic thinking, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Strong leadership and people management skills, including coaching and performance development

Proficiency in CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, Dynamics) and data-driven decision-making.

Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement abilities.

Ability to work cross-functionally with marketing, service, and product teams.
