About the role
- The role will be to provide support to Production Engineers for the introduction and manufacturing of self-contained breathing apparatus and associated products at the Draeger facility, assisting in determining and implementing the most appropriate methods and equipment for production needs and supporting this as required.
- Undertake own training and development activities in accordance with required timescales.
- Take responsibility for housekeeping and 6S within own work area.
- Ensure all work is undertaken to the required HSE (Health, Safety and Environmental) standards.
- Attend meetings where required.
- Support New Product Introduction into Operations via the NPD Production Engineering team role - liaise with other departments as required and assist project teams to ensure checklists, reports and all associated documentation is updated.
- Participate in new product sample, pre productions builds and organisation / accounting for stocks of materials required for these builds.
- Work with Production Engineers to help design, order and control jigs, fixtures, production tooling and associated documentation as required.
- Help devise and document working methods to ensure the Production Process is robust.
- Aid Production Engineers in creation and implementation of appropriate process controls (Including assembly process control charts, control plans, standard operating procedures, process instructions, risk assessments, PUWER, COSHH, etc)
- Training and guidance of operators, or others where required.
- Obtain production and build data to support fact-based business decisions.
- Assist Production Engineers maximise process efficiency, safety, capability and robustness through equipment and method improvements.
- Support root cause analysis workshops as necessary to support Production stoppages and recurring issues.
- Support project implementation through lifecycle using the Draeger Project Management standards (machine moves, installations, modifications, new machinery, and new processes)
- Ensure all changes which may affect product are controlled, communicated and managed through appropriate stakeholder involvement and processes prior to and during introduction.
- Some travel off-site to support inspection of new equipment, attend training courses and provide support may be required.
- Any other reasonable duties required by Operations Management.

Size of team/environment
- The Production Engineering team consists of approximately 15 members.
- Working between office, lab and factory floor the team provide Engineering support to the production team, Project teams and other stakeholders as required.
- This can be in the form of build or introduction of new equipment and processes and support of existing. The team also provide advice,knowledge, expertise and Engineering services to other departments as required.

Education/Qualifications
- ONC Mechanical /Production Engineering or equivalent.
- Other technical qualifications will be considered if relevant.
Related Experience
- Apprentice trained from a similar background or experienced and qualified in a similar technical role (fast paced manufacturing of safety critical products. Mechanical and Pressure systems experience is ideal).
- Skills, Special Competencies
- General IT knowledge and ability, use of Microsoft office.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills. A good team player.
- Self-motivated, customer and service orientated.
- Proactive and flexible with ability to work without close supervision.
- Able to learn new skills and develop within the role where opportunity is presented.
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing an advantage.
