The Senior Test Engineer is responsible for evaluation, development, implementation, maintenance and improvement of manufacturing test systems/tools/equipment, including design documentation.  Key responsibilities also include developing test strategies and technologies, and interfacing with diverse groups within Draeger and with external suppliers.

  • Evaluate, develop, implement, maintain and improve manufacturing test systems, tools, & equipment, including custom test hardware and software, and all related design documentation.
  • Create and maintain test equipment design documentation and test / calibration / preventive maintenance instructions; conduct related technical training for Production personnel.
  • Write and execute verification & validation protocols for test equipment per FDA requirements.
  • Support the introduction of new products concerning test concepts and test development; work within project teams to define test equipment development project plans and deliverables & estimate work effort.
  • Participate in detailed design reviews and code inspections in accordance with SOPs.
  • Perform investigations of test failures and during special projects, including low-yield analysis; implement solutions for improving test solutions.
  • Support development of new work processes, automated tools and test capabilities in manufacturing for improving quality & efficiency.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities; develop and implement solutions.
  • Performs other duties as needed and assigned.

 

Your Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.

Related Experience:

  • Minimum 5-8 years of working experience in product and/or manufacturing test development as an individual contributor, required
  • Experience in coordinating with external test system development partners, preferred
  • Experience in the Medical Device or other regulated industry, and working knowledge of FDA QSR, and related regulations, preferred
  • National Instruments LabView & TestStand experience required.
  • National Instruments LabWindows/CVI experience a plus
  • Solid programming experience/background in C / C++ / Visual Basic required
  • Proven background in automated test system development, desired
  • Proficiency with laboratory equipment such as spectrum\network analyzers, signal generators, power\supplies meters and oscilloscopes
  • Strong working knowledge of test instrumentation calibration, verification and validation methods, SPC, process capability and FMEA, desired
  • Exposure to and understanding of LEAN manufacturing practices desired, including test system design for reduced cycle times
  • Proficiency with Minitab or other statistical software preferred
  • MS Office Suite proficiency required, MS Access, SQL & MS Project preferred

Special Competencies or Certifications:

Hardware Skills

  • Strong background in AC/DC custom electronics design for interface & breakout PCBAs
  • Design for small signal integrity
  • Strong understanding of relay drivers
  • Understanding of 802.11 and wireless protocols
  • Understanding of serial communications and ability to script for automation
  • Strong understanding of TCP/UDP protocols; demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and understand network traffic
  • Demonstrated hardware/software troubleshooting and debug skills

LabView Skills

  • Strong understanding of state machine VIs, multi-threading tasks.
  • Ability to create LabView routines to communicate with off-the-shelf equipment and integrate within custom test systems
  • Design clean easy to maintain routines and user interfaces
  • Robust design of VIs with error-checking and timeouts

General

  • Ability to work within a team environment utilizing common code and maintain standard group practices for test systems design
  • Effectively communicate and present data & analysis; excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Stays current with new and emerging technologies and trends; learns and utilizes new knowledge quickly and effectively
  • Performs a variety of tasks, and works independently, without appreciable direction

Draeger has several sites located across North America as well as field-based sales and service positions. Our North America headquarters is located in Telford, PA just north of Philadelphia. We also have US sites in Andover, MA, and Houston, TX. Our Canada site is located in Mississauga, Ontario.

Our US headquarters located north of Philadelphia in Telford, Pennsylvania is our US manufacturing site for our Neonatal product line supplying many global customers as well as production support for Draeger’s Safety products. This location also serves as the key site for essential US functions which includes Medical Sales and Service Management, Medical Marketing, Legal, Compliance, Regulatory, Quality and Finance.
