About the role

• Support and/or lead small to medium sized product modification projects from concept through to design and production release.
• Identify and implement product design solutions to solve current product issues in manufacturing, material supply and at the customer.
• Assist with cost reduction projects that require R&D input.
• Provide R&D support including proto type development on customer specific tenders.

Reporting Relationships

Manager

• Head of Engineering Excellence – Mechanical

Size of team/environment

• Approximately 8 people in direct team-based in Blyth, 21 people in mechanical engineering and approximately 75 in the R & D dept

 Role Requirements

Education/Qualifications

• Degree qualified or equivalent in mechanical engineering or mechanical design 

Related Experience 

•  Design experience in either electro/mechanical enclosures including sealing for harsh environments or pneumatic high-pressure systems is essential.

Skills, Special Competencies

• Experience in designing pneumatic systems - essential
• Demonstrated proficiency with Pro Engineer - desirable
• Experience in designing stamped, turned, and cast metal part- Experience in designing plastic injection molded parts - desirable
• Excellent problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and team orientation
• Demonstrated track record of consistently delivering goals on time
•     Experience of Six sigma and DFMA would be advantageous
•  Experience in designing to EN and international standards
• Experience of working within the PPE safety industry (desirable)
