The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for the growth of our Fire and Gas Detection business through the identification, evaluation and development of new business opportunities. The BDM will be required to develop strong consultative relationships with key clients to include corporate influencers, engineering firms, and outside consulting groups or subject matter experts to drive specification and vendor selection. The BDM will be the champion for our new business development initiatives and work closely supporting our US field sales team in developing new business within the Oil, Gas, Chemical, Clean Energy Market Segments-such as LiOn Battery production and Storage, Hydrogen Production and general industrial segments such as Pharmaceuticals and Water Treatment.
Primary Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning
- Develop, define & implement a clear strategy for sales growth of instrumentation solutions within the target industries.
- Conduct research and analysis of market / project opportunities using IIR and/or Dodge Reports
- Evaluate market / project opportunities by engaging with clients & executing feasibility studies
- Participate in strategic planning processes with Director of Business Development
- Implement business plans and initiatives in coordination with other business functions
Develop Key Relationships
Identify, assess, target and actively develop relationships with influential key subject matter experts (SME) and decision makers at the corporate level, within engineering firms, and through strategic partnerships with outside consultancy groups.
Presenting
Identify, arrange, attend, and lead, as necessary presentations to key account Subject Matter Experts using technical seminars, lunch and learns and webinars. Support the local sales managers with expert knowledge on the specific solutions.
Business Development
- Coordinate with Sales to ensure awareness of major/strategic projects, opportunities and/or changes in customer specifications in order to maximize chances of opportunity conversion.
- Serve as the primary interface for tracking of major/strategic projects for the account and identify and communicate to Sales staff the local & national project opportunities for development to closure by Sales.
- Be the Champion internally and externally for the proposed solutions and support local sales personnel by actively introducing key account subject matter experts and developing key relationships on identified opportunities
Working with Others
Liaise with local regional sales managers as well as global key account managers to ensure opportunities are maximized as well as supporting open communication on business development.
Your Qualifications
Education:
Must have a Technical Degree in Science, Engineering or Technology or equivalent experience
Requirements:
Minimum 5+ years of Application Sales, Engineering, Product Managment or Business Development experience in selling or client facing involvement with instrumentation, automation, process control, gas analyzers or fire detection systems.
A strong drive to succeed and a natural hunter of new business, this position has high visibility within the organization and provides an opportunity for career progression in the market leader for safety instrumentation.
Will be required to travel 50-75%.
